The Database for Arab Phages (DBArP) was established to serve as a centralized, curated resource for bacteriophage data from the Arab region, with the aim of enhancing the visibility, and integration of regional phage research into global scientific databases. In the context of the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the renewed global interest in bacteriophages as alternative therapeutic agents, DBArP plays a critical role in documenting ESKAPEE Arab phages.
This annual report presents an overview of Arab bacteriophage submissions to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), highlighting trends, host-pathogen coverage, particularly among priority ESKAPEE pathogens, and the geographical distribution of contributions across Arab countries.
By summarizing key statistical indicators and research outputs, this report assesses progress, identifies gaps, and informs future strategies to strengthen regional collaboration, research capacity, and data sharing in bacteriophage research.
The Database for Arab Phages (DBArP) provides an overview of the current status and progress of ESKAPEE phage research in the Arab region. The steady increase in phage submissions to NCBI from 2018 to 2025 reflects growing research activity and improved engagement with global data-sharing platforms. This upward trend highlights increasing regional awareness of the importance of bacteriophages.
